Sony will provide it's range of high-definition broadcast and production systems for NBC's coverage of the 2006 Winter Games this month in Torino, Italy. Sony's HDC-1000 multi-format 1080/60P portable cameras will be capturing most of the action at the Main Broadcast Center venues and sending signals to Sony's MVS-8000A and MFS-2000 video production switchers. NBC is using 70 of Sony's BVM-D HD including the BVM-D14H5U, BVM-D20F1U, BVM-D24E1WU and BVM-D32E1WU units. More than 300 LUMA professional LCD monitors plus some 150 LUMA LMD-9050 9-inch (viewable area, measured diagonally) multi-format field monitors will be used for HD field production. Other broadcast gear used in NBC's coverage of the Torino Games includes: the MSW-M2000 MPEG IMX VTR; DSR-1500, JH-1, JH-3, and J-30 VTRs; HDSX-5800 router; BRC-300 robotic camera and the Sony PCS-G50 videoconferencing system. Sony will also be exclusively supplying more than 16,000 hours worth of HDCAM videocassettes plus much of its DigitalMaster 6mm and Digital Betacam format tapes. I'm glad Sony video cameras and products will be used in taping the events. I'm sure everything will run smooth as butter.

The Kodak EasyShare-One Wireless Digital Camera is the first snapshot cam with Wi-Fi. The 4-megapixel, 3X-zoom camera gives decent daylight shots but has a reputation for bad night shots. Too bad it isn't wireless.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T9 model ($400-$500) happens to be the first ultra-slim digital still camera to offer both Super Steady Shot optical image stabilization and high light sensitivity. Why do you care? You end up getting more detailed images with significantly less blur and graininess than typical point-and-shoot cameras and just a more life-like picture. This is highly important when there are unfavorable light conditions in places like nightclubs and restaurants.

Canon EOS 5D review

The EOS 5D defines a new D-SLR category. The $3,300 camera has been called unrivaled because of its combination of prosumer design and professional performance. New features include the full-frame sensor, which does away with the conversion factor from 35mm common on other DSLRs, also the ability to fine-tune ISO settings, and shutter speed that goes all the way to 1/8000. Some of the con's include the relatively low-powered LCD, having to dig through menus for functions that could be more readily accessible on buttons, plus the lack of a popup flash. Still the Canon EOS 5D is the best in its class.

So I was playing around with this magnificent beast of a video camera while my friend was recording some women’s volleyball. Don't ask why! And yes it operates in most ways like a regular old video camera would
but offers some new features. The JVC GY-HD100, a $4,000 camera, is an example of how prices have come down drastically even as technology has improved in equal measure. The new sort of format called HDVPro provides this Camera a simple recording method which is direct to your hard drive. So no more capturing your video from tape into your computer to edit. Bam it's there! Along with an added amount of control you have over the images you record because of a little SD memory card where you can save your settings, it offers you the experience of HD without spending $70,000-100,000.

This new thin, Xacti series, digital camera from Sanyo comes with a beautiful 3-inch (7,32 cm) LCD display which really makes picture viewing that much better. (I hate having to zoom in with every picture to see if it turned out good or not). Other improvements include the MPEG4 format video recording and new touch-sensor which increases the camera's focus time on a subject. The internal optical zoom lens offers a focal length of 38-114mm giving a brightness of f/3.3 - 4.0. The Sanyo E6 has a 1./2.5-inch CCD image sensor and captures still images with a resolution of 6 Megapixels. Images are stored on 16MB of internal memory. A bigger and better way to see your pictures on a digital camera! This one's not available yet..wait for it.

One of the best performing cameras on the market, the 6.3 mega pixel Fuji Film Ninepin F10 produces beautiful photos with a fast response. The camera has great low-light shooting capability, terrific battery life, and easy to operate controls and menus. Weighing only about 7.2 ounces this is a great point-and-shoot digicam for travel picture taking. “For slightly more than 300 bucks, this camera should be high on the list for those who want effortless picture taking..” I found it at Butterfly Photo for $266.00 after rebate.
