The sonic grenade will wake you up
October 04, 2005
|
| Gadgets

When I first saw this bad boy I thought first of the fire drills we used to have in the dorms at the University of Arizona. Man they where loud and there was no way to sleep through them. The Ear-splitting "sonic grenade" brings out the same affect. Simply pull the pin, and launch the grenade into the target's room. In ten seconds a very annoying and piercingly loud noise (one of three volume settings) will blast out from the alarm. The best part is that to stop the alarm the sleeper has to find you so you can put the pin back in. Now that's annoying. A great prank toy or a great travel gadget for getting your family going on those early mornings no one wants to get up. Pick one up for $16.

IonKids tracking child system
October 03, 2005
|
| Gadgets
Like having control of your young dog? Off course you do, without a leash it would run away! Well the same idea comes into mind when traveling with your kids, whether it be Africa or just to the mall. The IonKids system from the firm Bluespan gives your kids some space but doesn't let them wander too far. A perfect travel gadget! Your child wears a comfortable Wristag (kinda like a regular wristwatch) that communicates directly to the PDA-like Base Unit in your hands. When the child wanders too far away, the child's Wristtag starts to beep and sends an alert to the screen portion of the Base Unit and helps the parent locate the child’s position. Some people might view this as slightly inhumane ... but then again i've seen actual leashes on kids! To the discetion of the child's behaivor.

Twilight Tracer Light up golf ball
August 04, 2005
|
| Sports

Like many of us I'm really bad at golf, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy the game. Often times the weather is gloomy, dark or rainy, reducing visibility. This is where the Twilight Tracer shines, literally. It's basically a pro-standard golf ball that fits USGA and R&A Rules but also lights up when you hit it. So when you do make that half-ass drive into wherever, you can actually find your ball. The Twilight Tracer stays lit for 5 minutes after you hit it, giving you ample time to find its exact position. You can pick this one up for $22.66.
S-board
August 03, 2005
|
| Sports

When I was 13 I used to treat my body like a test dummy skateboarding at the local skate park. Take a skateboard, subtract two wheels, and what do you get? Much more pain and lots of it. Whatever no pain no game right? With the S-board you can bring the sensation of snowboarding in Vail to the streets of New York. The new two rollerblade wheel design gives you that smooth slalom feeling and allows for sharp turns. Cool for the "I’ll try anything once daredevils" this is it! The S-board launches later this month in the UK... Prices to sell at £70 ($122.5), you will have the option of customizing your board and wheels with different custom designs.

French Porta Potty
July 30, 2005
|
| Gadgets

I took this picture in June when I visited Cannes, France. I found it interesting that porta potties there charged money. These street toilets take 1 Euro per use. The green light button means it's unoccupied and changes to red when occupied. When coins are inserted, the round door on the corner opens electronically and slides back in a quick motion... much more techy then any I've ever seen.

Faber Maunsell and Hugh Broughton, both architects, won the competition for designing the new British Antarctic Survey (BAS) Halley Research Station. The modulate station will be elevated on ski-based jackable legs to avoid burial by snow and to be easily towed across the ice. The central module is packed with stimulating areas for recreation and relaxation. It also features state of the art fuel, waste and material handling, and renewable energy sources for implementing pro-environmental strategies. This station is said to be compared to a four star hotel in some areas.
